William Makepeace Thackeray

Most of us know him as the character in the books who writes silly plays such as Petticoats and Rifles. Well, William Makepeace Thackeray is an actual author, so I thought I'd put this page up, in case anyone's interested. However, unlike the Makepeace in the books, this one wrote satirical novels, the most famous of which is Vanity Fair.

He was born in Calcutta, India and died in London, England. He moved to England at the age of 5 and was educated there, and later traveled to Paris, Weimar and other cities. Although he was often compared to Charles Dickens, he preferred to distinguish himself from that author.

Not very many similarities, I know. Even the picture doesn't look very much like him.

Other mentions:

  • A British furniture maker
  • A cricket player
  • A character in the House of Cards trilogy, where he was a minister in the government
  • A canadian film and TV actor
  • An early computer scientist

Place note these are people only with the last name Makepeace, not people named Quentin Makepeace! Thanks wikipedia!
