The following information is from the official Russian Bartimaeus Trilogy website (the following is my translation):
Miramax has bought the rights of the first novel of Jonathan Stroud's trilogy! The members of the cast and writers are being kept secret, but the fact that the company paid the British writer 3 million dollars for the rights to the first book, as well as the fact that all three Bartimaeus books were published by Miramax, suggests that the budget for the films will be sufficient to invite first rate actors.
This was the author's comment: "I was completely shocked. It was one of the turning stages of my life. I spent the first part of the year in isolation, finighing the first book and creating a beginning for "The Amulet of Samarkand." When I finished sending the manuscript to varoius publishers, there was a surge of interest - a great one than I could have received in response to any other of my books. The director of the company Miramax read it and expressed interest in buying the rights for a film."
Please keep in mind that the Russian website of the trilogy was last updated in 2007.
